The “Combined Defence Services”Examination (CDS) is conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment into the Indian Military Academy, officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy.
CDS Recruitment Stages
Qualifying the written test.
Appearing for an interview with the Service Selection Board.
If selected, you get admitted to one of the following-
Indian Military Academy, Dehradun – Permanent Commision
Naval Academy, Goa – Permanent Commission
Air Force Academy, Begumpet – Permanent Commission
Officers Training Academy, Chennai – Short Service Commission
Officers Training Academy, 18th SSC Women(Non-technical) – Short Service Commission
On the basis of your preferences and ranking in the merit list.
One small thing though, Women candidates are eligible for the Officers Training academy only!
CDS Exam Details
CDS is a 3 stage exam consisting of written examination, personal interview followed by medical examination. Interested applicants should have respective bachelor’s degree as per the post requirement.






CDS Educational Qualification

In this article you will find the detailed Educational requirements to be eligible to write the CDS Exam. The CDS exam is a gateway for all those aspirants who wish to join the prestigious Defence Services of India. Holding such a prestigious position demands that the candidate have certain minimum educational qualifications as mentioned below:

Indian Military Academy/Officers’ Training Academy: 

 The candidates must possess a degree from a recognized university or equivalent.

Indian Naval Academy: The candidates must possess a Bachelor of Engineering degree.

Air Force Academy: The candidates must possess a degree from a recognized university having studied Physics and Mathematics at the Class 12 level or must have a Bachelor of Engineering.

Graduates who have selected the Army/Navy/Air Force as their first choice are required to submit a proof of graduation or provisional certificates on the date of commencement of the SSB interview at the SSB.

For CDS exam, applicants can be from any stream but for entry to Air Force and Navy, candidates should have studied Physics and Mathematics up to Class 12.
Candidates who are studying in the final year of their degree course and are yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply but they will be required to submit proof of passing the degree examination.

The English section is aimed at testing a candidate’s basic English skills. Questions in the English section include Synonyms, Antonyms, Reading comprehension, Jumbled sentences, Sentence correction and Fill in the blanks.

The General Knowledge section requires you to have up-to-date knowledge of Current Affairs, scientific inventions, History, Geography and any other topics of importance.

The Elementary Mathematics section tests your knowledge on all topics that have been taught up to the class 10 level.
